Days out of the city

Excursions from Marrakech

Marrakech sits between the High Atlas, the Atlantic coast and the road to the Sahara, so a day out can take you to very different places. Choose a mountain valley, a waterfall, the ocean or a kasbah, or travel further for a night in the desert.

Each page sets out the route, the timings and what to expect, so you can compare the trips and choose the right one for your group. Our excursions are open to everyone, whether or not you are staying in one of our villas.

Choosing an excursion

Start with how much time you want to spend on the road. The Ourika Valley, the Three Valleys and Imlil are the closest escapes into the mountains. Ouzoud and Essaouira take around two and a half hours each way. Ait Ben Haddou, Casablanca and Agadir make for long days, and the desert trips run over two or three.

Then think about the group. Families with young children usually prefer the shorter trips and a waterfall to reach. Walkers enjoy Imlil. Guests who want the great sand dunes should allow three days for Merzouga.

Our excursions are open to everyone staying in Marrakech, in one of our villas, in a riad or in a hotel. Our concierge team can plan them around the rest of your stay.

Questions guests ask

What is the best day trip from Marrakech?

It depends on what your group enjoys. The Ourika Valley and Imlil are the easiest mountain days, Essaouira is the choice for the ocean, and Ait Ben Haddou is the one for kasbahs and dramatic landscapes, with a longer drive.

Can we be collected from our villa?

Tell us where you are staying when you enquire. We confirm the pick-up point and time with your quote.

Can an excursion be adapted for children or older guests?

Yes. We adjust the pace, the walking and the number of stops to your group, and suggest the trips with the shortest drives if needed.

Can we visit the Sahara from Marrakech in one day?

No. The desert is too far for a day trip. The shortest option is the two-day Zagora tour, with a night in a desert camp.
